Role overview:

We are seeking a skilled Database Administrator with expertise in MariaDB to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing, maintaining, and optimizing our MariaDB databases to ensure high performance, availability, and security. This is a full-time job and a fully remote position with a flexible schedule. The ideal candidate will have to be able to work independently but also in various teams, schedule their working hours per team’s requirements, communicate clearly with a global team asynchronously, have troubleshooting skills, must have strong researching skills, poses team leading skills, be detail oriented and eager to learn new things.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the installation, configuration, and maintenance of MariaDB databases via Podman containers or Kubernetes.
  • Monitor database performance and implement tuning measures to optimize efficiency.
  • Develop and manage backup and recovery plans to ensure data integrity and availability.
  • Implement and maintain database security measures to protect sensitive data.
  • Diagnose and resolve database-related issues promptly.
  • Work closely with development teams to design and implement database solutions that meet business requirements.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of database configurations, processes, and procedures.

Mandatory Requirements:

  • Proficiency in MariaDB and MySQL.
  • Experience with Linux operating systems (min 3 years of experience), preferably RHEL-based distributions.
  • Strong understanding of database design, architecture, and best practices.
  • Experience with database performance tuning and optimization.
  • Knowledge of backup and recovery processes.
  • Familiarity with database security protocols.
  • Fluent in English (both written and spoken).
  • At times, willing to work after hours, weekends, or possibly holidays to handle scheduled operations that couldn’t be scheduled during the work week, or unscheduled emergencies.
  • Bachelor’s degree in IT, Computer Science, Computer Engineering or similar.
  • Troubleshooting and excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong communication and teamwork abilities.

Nice-To-Have:

  • Automate service deployments with GitLab CI/CD according to GitOps practices.
  • Containerize services (Docker, Podman).
  • Working with Kubernetes infrastructure.
  • Galera Clusters.
  • Scripting languages like Bash or Python.
